WASHINGTON, D.C. — The trouble for Al Franken just keeps getting worse. In a new poll out yesterday, it’s apparent that Franken’s financial troubles and lack of credibility with voters are catching up with him.
According to the Star Tribune Minnesota Poll, the “survey conducted last week shows Coleman attracting the support of 51 percent of registered voters, compared with 44 percent for Franken.” (Star Tribune, 5/18/08)
The poll also notes, “Franken appears to have been hurt by his recent income tax problems … Overall, 42 percent said they are not satisfied with the explanations he has given, and 28 percent said it would make them less likely to vote for him.” (Star Tribune, 5/18/08)
The new poll comes on the heels of another poll which also showed Franken losing ground. Recently, Franken has been dogged by questions relating to his honesty in the ongoing failure to pay workers’ compensation insurance saga.
“Comedian Al Franken’s recent tax problems have certainly caught up with him,” NRSC Communications Director Rebecca Fisher said. “Senator Coleman is running a strong race, and while the race will continue to be competitive, Al Franken’s going to have a lot more to answer for.”
