Senator up big over twice failed gubernatorial candidate
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Twice-failed gubernatorial candidate Bruce Lunsford is running statewide a third time. While he may believe the third time’s the charm, a new poll out yesterday shows Sen. Mitch McConnell leading Lunsford by double digits.
In a poll released by Sen. McConnell’s campaign and conducted by Voter/Consumer Research, McConnell leads Lunsford 50 to 39 percent.
In a string of further bad news for Lunsford, only 34 percent of those surveyed have a positive impression of him, while 20 percent have a negative impression. Lunsford’s campaign cost about $2 million to win the Democrat primary last week.
“Sen. McConnell is a strong leader with a proven record of providing for Kentucky, NRSC Communications Director Rebecca Fisher said. “Unlike Bruce Lunsford, Mitch McConnell has actually been elected statewide.”
